City festivals

  • Málaga Fair

    It is celebrated in the middle of August. You can enjoy two different stages: The Fair in the city centre, where you can have some wine and tapas listening to music around the historic streets in Málaga, and the Fair premises, where stands, performances, funfair are gathered in some premises prepared for the visitor's entertainment at night.

  • San Juan

    On 23 June at night, at twelve o'clock, "júas" start to be burnt, they are large cloth dolls, filled with sawdust, paper or any other type of material. Most bonfires are made on the city beaches. When flames are at a reasonable height, young people start to jump over them. At the same time people play around the fire.

  • Virgen del Carmen Festivity

    Every 16 Julio Nuestra Señora del Carmen is out for street processions in all the fishing districts. Later, the image is boarded for a sea trip accompanied by many fishing boats.

  • Romería al Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Victoria (Trip to Nuestra Señora de la Victoria Sanctuary).

    It takes place on the Saturday of August Málaga Fair in the Park Central Avenue. At noon the Mayor hands the city flag to the standard-bearer who will take it to Nuestra Señora de la Victoria Sanctuary, Málaga Saint Patron.

  • The Three Wise Men Parade (La Cabalgata de Reyes Magos)

    The Three Wise Men get to Málaga Port on January 5th . Once in the city, the Parade starts its trip from the Park Avenue (Paseo del Parque) to the City Hall.

Gastronomy and restaurants

Málaga cooking is healthy, light and Mediterranean. Fish and shellfish are its most outstanding products. The mountains provide high quality game and cold meat. The main recipe is "Ajoblanco" cold soup based on olive oil, garlic and almonds.

  • From "Pescaito frito" to "Espetos"

    Tasty and varied fried fish as well as clams, vinegar anchovies or Espetos de Sardinas, made at the sea shore. Dishes that you should try during your stay in Málaga.

  • Desserts and sweet food

    Among sweet food in Málaga, the most outstanding products are as follows: delicious monastic preparations, almond bread rolls and sponge cakes, muffins or "Bienmesabe" from Antequera (sponge cake with sweet made from pumpkin and syrup, very light sweet made from egg yolks and sugar and almonds).

  • Wines

    Wines with Malaga Designation of Origin are well-known because of its sweet wines made from Moscatel and Pedro Ximénez grapes. Most of them come from blending, usually solera (a system of blending used in the production of fortified wines) individual grape harvest and some drops of mature wine in order to achieve its final character.
